Unbridled Overpopulation: Humanity's Achilles Heel
Overpopulation: Root Cause Behind All Global Crisis
Overpopulation: The Real Crisis
Unless we reduce our population, resource scarcity will accomplish the decrease in human numbers and painfully so, via plagues and famines.
We have made a real mess on this planet. People are finally awakening to some of the many consequences of overpopulation, such as global warming and peak oil. Everybody expects technology to come to our rescue, but technology is what got us into this precarious position in the first place. Technology only leads us out onto thin ice. Humans are not exempt from the laws of nature.
US Stocks Overvalued By All Measures
Another Measure Of Overvaluation
Here is a summary of the four market valuation indicators we update on a monthly basis.
- The Crestmont Research P/E Ratio (more)
- The cyclical P/E ratio using the trailing 10-year earnings as the divisor (more)
- The Q Ratio, which is the total price of the market divided by its replacement cost (more)
- The relationship of the S&P Composite price to a regression trendline (more)
To facilitate comparisons, we’ve adjusted the two P/E ratios and Q Ratio to their arithmetic means and the inflation-adjusted S&P Composite to its exponential regression.
Our Children Endangered By Fossil Fuel Combustion
Fossil fuel combustion endangers children's health in two significant ways: A scientist reviews the evidence
Children are vulnerable to toxic air pollution and the stressors of climate change
Writing in a commentary in Environmental Health Perspectives, Frederica Perera, director of the Columbia Center for Children's Environmental Health (CCCEH), identifies fossil fuel combustion and associated air pollution and carbon dioxide (CO2) as the root cause of much of the ill health of children today. Because of their inherent biological vulnerability, children now bear a disproportionate burden of disease from both pollution and climate change.
"The single most important action we can take for our children and their future is to cure our addiction to fossil fuel," said Perera, a professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the Mailman School.

Weekend Reading: Central Banks Save The World
You have to admit it is really quite amazing. Two weeks ago, Central Bankers and leading politicians were exclaiming that if Britain left the E.U. it would be a catastrophic economic event on the magnitude of a “Lehman” moment. However, despite all of the “hand-wringing,” if you had been asleep over the last month, as shown in the chart below, you wouldn’t know something had happened.
Resource Exhaustion Means Global Population Unsustainable
There are not enough resources to support the world’s population
We have reached a stage where the amount of resources needed to sustain our population exceeds what is available
Many years ago, as a second year medical student, I attended a lecture on human population by my tutor at Cambridge, Colin Bertram. He argued as a biologist that relentless population increase by any species is always ultimately unsustainable; numbers increase to the limits of the carrying capacity of their environment and when they overshoot this, their numbers always collapse. If we allow unremitting population growth to continue we humans cannot escape the same fate; however cleverly we might adapt to all the different environments on earth, we only have one finite planet to live on and 70 per cent of it is salt water, and half of the remainder is desert, mountain, icecap or fast-disappearing forest.
